The world’s fastest internet connection?

Peter Lothberg

We all get frustrated with internet access speed, at work, and especially at home. But what can we do about it?

If you’re technically adept, like Swedish “internet genius” Peter Lothberg (left), and you can plug into a fast, open network as he was able to, you can create your own 40Gb/s internet connection over fibre. Here, in a conference presentation from 2007, is how Peter hooked his mother Sigbritt’s house up, with the help of, among others, his parents, and friends at SUNet, Cisco, the City of Karlstad, ELTEL Networks, and Stratalight.

According to this item on the Webmaster Heaven site:

Sigbritt will now be able to enjoy 1,500 high definition HDTV channels simultaneously. Or, if there is nothing worth watching there, she will be able to download a full high definition DVD in just two seconds.

Thanks to Neil Harris for bringing this to my attention.
